sorry man - its all about Mozy! 2GB free and then $4.95 a month for unlimited - thats like the price of a cheeseburger! follow them on twitter and every friday they give away 1 free unlimited account! it is great!

  3. davidg1234 says:

    Those 2 services are expensive.

Mozy and Carbonite are much cheaper, and really large companies so they won’t go under.

  4. sandeepownzzz says:

Seriously what kind of home user has any use for offsite back up? Let’s be realistic, how important are those word documents?

  5. brickan2 says:

Can’t think of any use for a service like this. Photos, documents and stuff like that, just burn it or use an external drive. The probability of my house burning up is just as big as their server room burning up. Even more probable is that they end providing their services all together because there’s absolutely NO market for this. Besides, there are free ftps up to like 2gb space if you HAVE to do backup online. Want a backup? Clone your HDD.

i use some cd program… i cant remember the name though

  7. Myztiks says:

And what if the service you use has a fire at their data center? It seems like a hassle to me, plus a lot of people have data transfer caps.

  8. peterlee666 says:

I store everything on my external and on rapidshare, the more i buy rapidshare, and the more i use it the more points i collect which i can convert to free months.

if something happens to my house ?

    like what ?
yeah ok if there is a great amount of explosives involved maybe my pc and my external spare hdd (which is somewhere else in the house), and my USB stick which I usually carry around, could all be destroyed. Then again, if that happens Im dead either so… ;)

I recommend Carbonite. It’s only $50 a year for as MUCH as you’d like to upload, and it automatically updates your files for you on a daily basis (those files that have been changed of course).

I agree with using online backups myself since I lost all my files I saved on my external HDD.

For me SafeCopy, http://www.safecopybackup.com is a perfect fit. I can backup USB drives, share files and backup both my Mac and PC with one account. I’m very happy with it and it may be worth checking out.
