People should be given less time if the crime was minor and more time if the crime was serious.
Some people spend a couple years on minor drug charges.
If someone is suppose to be executed, do it quick, don't make them stay in jail for 30 years then sentence them to death.
However, sometimes, people go to jail that are found 30 years later they are not responsible for the crime through dna and what not. The whole system is flawed.
The reason they don't do it is because they think it is the easy way out……they want that person to have the rest of thier lives to suffer and reflect on what they did……but at the end of the day they die anyway so maybe torture then death!
I just wrote a paper for my Political Science Course.
My research was on Rehabilitation of Prisoners. Our current prison system is known to be pretty inhumane! Many of our prisoners, when they have served their sentences, they often break the law, again and return to prison. Prison Reform needs to be improved. I strongly disagree with you about executing prisoners just to cut costs. That is murder,
what kind of message would we be giving to society?
If there were ever to be a reason for capital punishment then it should never be the cost of alternatives.
Furthermore,as mortals we do not have the right to take human life in cold blooded circumstances.
Finally, the argument of deterrent does not stand up.Anyone who premeditates murder is not considering the consequences of capture and imprisonment for life in the first place.
We really need to separate ourselves from some of the third world countries that still practise execution.
As another answer suggests, costs can be cut elsewhere.britain is notorious for locking up minor offenders even for the likes of failing to pay the BBC licence tax.
Less jail for minor offenders and more jail for serious.
It is important to bear in mind that the majority of our prisons are now probably 70% ethnic minority inmates compared with just 11% of the population as a whole.
Perhaps stronger immigration regulations and repatriation of foreign offenders would be a huge financial saving to the taxpayer and the biggest step towards cutting crime in decades.

I agree.
I have always felt that way…..YES!

If you faced life in prison.. wouldn't you prefer death?
I know I would.
Give Islamic punishments. Those do cut cost and don't keep prisoners for long.
No.
Taking a life can't be about just saving money.
all murderers should be. cost taxpayers $60,000 per year to keep each one.
Your SICK!!!!!!!!!!!
yes as long as they stay there but the gov. lets them out early anyway to do it again
